Blending Acrylics with Watercolour

This is a painting I’m currently working on. I was having trouble achieving the brightness and depth I wanted in the dark colours so I experimented with adding washes of acrylics over the top. The photo shows the end result at the top. This is a technique I will definitely be using again and can highly recommend. It is important to water down your acrylics, however, or they block out the watercolour underneath.

    Interesting approach. Might try this

  2. Like these I use aqueous acrylics a great deal…you might try mixing a bit of gloss medium to you acrylics to make them even more transparent or use jar colors instead of tube
